Hello and welcome to our new Website and our 2012 catalogue.

As I write this, we are again experiencing a reasonably mild winter. After a very wet summer and early autumn, we are
getting good early growth, with a few blooms here and there. The wet autumn made bulb planting extremely difficult, so
what normally takes a week, dragged out to 3 weeks of doing what we could between showers.

I am regularly asked by home gardeners how often they should lift bulbs in their gardens. There is no set time frame, but my advice is to check the clumps from time to time and if there is plenty of foliage, but not so many flowers, to have a dig and move some of the bulbs to a new area. As the bulbs increase, they tend to move closer to the surface. This will cause the bulbs to overheat during the summer and not flower as well. At Pleasant Valley, we try and leave new plantings at least 4 years before we lift them for sale. Any sooner, and there will be very little increase. If you have good healthy growth and plenty of flowers, I would leave them alone.

Last year we set up a website, which is basically our catalogue, and a few other things of interest. You are now able to view our selection and order online, if you wish. We can be found at:   www.pleasantvalleydaffodils.co.nz

We hope you enjoy our selection of new introductions. As always, lots of colour for the garden, and some nice show blooms from here and from growers worldwide.

For those who have trouble finding us, we now have signs at Speechley’s Bridge, on the Geraldine to Fairlie Highway. We are open to the public, 7 days a week from early September to Mid October. Visitors are welcome to stroll around over two hectares of blooms, or view them in our large indoor display.
